A CHURCH THAT SHOWS UP

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35

You are invited to make an impact!

We believe God calls each of us to change the world for the better! At Wesley, we don’t sit on the sidelines. We get out of our seats and into the streets to care for our neighbors. Join a community outreach and serve the hungry and homeless in NJ. Or go global and help with Nyagidha Education Center in Kenya on the other side of the world.

Weekly Mission

Ending Local Hunger.

We are big on feeding people. We collect food for South Plainfield Social Services and partner with New Dover UMC in Edison to make hundreds of sandwiches and collect food for St. Joseph's Food Distribution Center in Elizabeth every Friday. Needed items include pasta, snacks, crackers, cookies, beef stew, tuna, shampoo, cream rinse, Chef Boyardee, sides, potatoes, fruits, oil, and flour.

For more information, click here. To join the Bread Breakers team (Monday night @ 7:00 PM) or arrange drop offs through Wesley Church, please contact Connie Palmer.

We delivered more than 100,000 sandwiches
since the pandemic.

Monthly Missions

October Mission

Socktober

Please donate adult socks. There will be collection bins set up in Fellowship Hall and the Narthex for sock donations. The socks will be delivered to the Reform Church in Highland Park, which has an extensive homeless ministry.  The mission team has approved $500.00 in matching funds to buy more socks.

Missions Update

From the Mission Team (9/19/2025):

We happily packed 118 lunches last Monday for Plainfield. This Monday the 22nd we will be packing again with the help of Sharon’s small group. Sandwiches always welcome. They can be dropped off at church on Sunday or brought to the lunch room at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

We also packed 274 lunches last Friday at New Dover UMC, delivering to both Elizabeth and Rahway.

Great news! After this past week’s offerings we will be using the full $2,000.00 in matching funds for the Nyagidha Education Center. Without the matching monies the account is up to $2,170.34. And we still have two more weeks to go! The children and teachers at the education center will be excited to receive those funds to get them closer to recertification to teach the upper grades. You really are the best!

This week’s shopping list for the South Plainfield Social Services Department: hearty soup, juice, snacks, cookies, toothpaste, sides, pancake syrup, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, pasta, tuna, canned chicken breast, mayonnaise, Chef Boyardee. What an accomplishment to be able to help restock their shelves each week.

Looking ahead, after September comes Socktober! There will be collection bins set up in Fellowship Hall and the Narthex for sock donations. The socks will be delivered to the Reform Church in Highland Park, which has an extensive homeless ministry. The mission team has approved $500.00 in matching funds to buy more socks.

Mark your calendars for October 25th. We will be hosting a benefit concert for Conner’s Wings of Courage. The concert, featuring Karen King’s brass ensemble and Wesley musical groups led by YK, is scheduled for 11-12 with refreshments afterwards. The nonprofit set up by the Chen family to honor their son, Conner, will help meet the various needs of families who have a child who is struggling to fight cancer. The mission team is ready to match $1,000.00 in support.

There are so many good ways to be of service to people in need. So honored to be part of a congregation that recognizes those needs and takes action to alleviate them.
