A CHURCH THAT SHOWS UP

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35

You are invited to make an impact!

We believe God calls each of us to change the world for the better! At Wesley, we don’t sit on the sidelines. We get out of our seats and into the streets to care for our neighbors. Join a community outreach and serve the hungry and homeless in NJ. Or go global and help with Nyagidha Education Center in Kenya on the other side of the world.

Weekly Mission

Ending Local Hunger.

We are big on feeding people. We collect food for South Plainfield Social Services and partner with New Dover UMC in Edison to make hundreds of sandwiches and collect food for St. Joseph's Food Distribution Center in Elizabeth every Friday. Needed items include pasta, snacks, crackers, cookies, beef stew, tuna, shampoo, cream rinse, Chef Boyardee, sides, potatoes, fruits, oil, and flour.

For more information, click here. To join the Bread Breakers team (Monday night @ 7:00 PM) or arrange drop offs through Wesley Church, please contact Connie Palmer.

We delivered more than 100,000 sandwiches
since the pandemic.

Monthly Missions

May Mission

This month, our mission campaign supports Women Aware, an organization serving survivors of domestic violence in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Since 1981, Women Aware has provided free and confidential services including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, housing assistance, support groups, children’s programs, and community education. Their mission is to help individuals and families live safely and move toward healing and independence.

Missions Update

From the Mission Team (5/15/2026):

Thank you to everyone who provided sandwiches on Monday. We were able to pack 134 lunches to be delivered to Plainfield. We are will be packing again this Monday and hope to have even more sandwiches, because we are scheduled to deliver to two locations in Plainfield. You know the drill. Leave sandwiches in the refrigerator off of Assembly Hall when you come to church on Sunday or bring them to the lunchroom Monday evening at 7.

On Friday we packed 200 lunches for the Food Distribution Center in Elizabeth.

Great news! We received additional donations for the United Methodist Communities Fund on Sunday that brought our total receipts to $1,125.00, allowing us to use the full $1,000.00 in matching funds. The mission team has agreed to add another $125:00 from the Special Missions Fund, enabling us to donate $2,250 to the fund. On June 23rd the home at Bristol Glen will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to acknowledge the improvements to the home and to honor Barbara Harris, a generous benefactor of the home. Many of you may remember Barbara as a valued member of our congregation. We have been invited to attend the ceremony. Sue Shevlin and Connie Palmer are planning on attending. If anyone would like to join them for a tour of the facility, please contact Sue for more details.

This week’s shopping list for the South Plainfield Social Services department: jelly, mayonnaise, ketchup, snacks, juice and juice boxes, rice and pasta sides, and toiletries.

We are off to a good start for our May mission project. We have monetary donations of $455.00 for Women Aware, an organization dedicated to providing support for victims of domestic violence. There is $700.00 in matching funds for this fund raiser. Through the rest of the month we are asking for additional monetary donations or gift cards in various denominations for transportation, food deliveries, Walmart, Target, food and other necessities. Gift cards can be placed in the basket in the Narthex or the Safe House on the table in Fellowship Hall.

Start saving your pennies for the Penny War that will be happening in June. It was great fun last year. You will learn more about this fund raiser for Heifer International on May 31. Until then, enjoy the beautiful month of May as you continue to be a blessing to those who are being served by Women Aware.
