A CHURCH THAT SHOWS UP

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35

You are invited to make an impact!

We believe God calls each of us to change the world for the better! At Wesley, we don’t sit on the sidelines. We get out of our seats and into the streets to care for our neighbors. Join a community outreach and serve the hungry and homeless in NJ. Or go global and help with Nyagidha Education Center in Kenya on the other side of the world.

Weekly Mission

Ending Local Hunger.

We are big on feeding people. We collect food for South Plainfield Social Services and partner with New Dover UMC in Edison to make hundreds of sandwiches and collect food for St. Joseph's Food Distribution Center in Elizabeth every Friday.

For more information, click here. To join the Bread Breakers team (Monday night @ 7:00 PM) or arrange drop offs through Wesley Church, please contact Connie Palmer.

We delivered more than 100,000 sandwiches
since the pandemic.

Monthly Missions

The “For Tanzania: A Living Wage for Every Pastor” campaign aims to raise funds to ensure every United Methodist pastor in Tanzania can dedicate themselves entirely to ministry without financial uncertainty for a whole year. This is a second mile campaign that is asking each local congregation if you would help support a pastor’s salary (full year; half-year or for a month).  The average Tanzanian pastor earns $63 annually, and many don’t get paid at all by their churches. In addition, right now in Tanzania, economic difficulties and denominational challenges, make this a critical time of needed support. This second mile campaign seeks to provide a living wage of $1,200 annually for each United Methodist pastor of Tanzania.

Missions Update

From the Mission Team (6/27/2025)

Just a reminder, we will not be packing lunches on Monday evenings until August 4th. We are still packing on Friday mornings at New Dover for delivery to the Elizabeth Food Distribution Center at St Joseph’s, except for July 4th. If anyone would like to make sandwiches let Connie or Howard know and we will make arrangements to pick them up before Friday morning at 8. New Dover does have a small refrigerator outside their main entrance if anyone would like to drop sandwiches there.

School is out for the summer, which means there is no free lunch program. The Social Services Department’s shopping list is a little longer than usual to help accommodate family’s needs: snacks, crackers, pasta, cereal, side dishes, canned chicken breast, tuna, Chef Boyardee, hearty soups, mayonnaise, Mac n cheese, peanut butter and jelly. Collection baskets are set up in the Narthex and at the back door entrance. There is also a collection bin on the porch at 526 Harrison Avenue in South Plainfield if you would like to drop off donations during the week.

We received $457.00 in donations for Peace with Justice.

With one week left in June, we are shy of our goal to be able to send $2400 to Tanzania to cover the yearly salaries of two ministers who are serving churches in the area. As of this writing we have collected $535.00. The mission team has approved matching funds up to $1,000.00 to help us reach our goal. As disciples of Jesus we have been commissioned to spread the word of God’s unconditional love. This is a great opportunity to do just that.

School may have just ended, but we are already preparing for students’ needs when they return in the fall. We will be working with the South Plainfield Social Services Department and the South Plainfield school administration to provide a list of the items needed to fill backpacks for elementary, middle and high school students. We hope to have the list and collection bins available in July and August.

See you in church!
